There are always those oops moments when we drip some oil laden gravy on our clothes or our
kids smear chocolate on their new clothes or we end up splattering our clothes with
something which we know leave hard to remove stains. The rush towards the laundry room or
the washroom to try and minimize the damage is epic at those moments.
For me, being mom to a child who was ultra messy while growing up I always had a collection of
various detergents and stain removers etc. stowed in my washroom.
Over the course of time I started mixing a few choice cleaning products as I knew they were
super effective and now I always have a bottle mixed and readily accessible in my washroom
and my daughter’s too. I thought I would share the how of it with all my readers today.
So say goodbye to the panic when you stain a fav garment and just mix up the following few
things and have an super detergent available to you all the time!
Take an empty hand wash or shampoo bottle, preferably with a pump and rinse it well.
Add the following to it:
- Detergent (I usually use Tide which is a better option for colored clothes but you can use whatever you have on hand. However using a good quality detergent means you can relax even if the material of your clothes is very expensive).
- Shampoo (I usually use a good quality mild cleansing shampoo. Buying and storing one is a good investment anyway as washing your chiffons and silks with it will yield a better result than the dry cleaners).
- Liquid Scotch Brite (Yeap you read that right! This one is probably one of the best dish washing fluids in our local market and is great to remove stains without damaging your clothes or your hands).
- Fabric conditioner (this will ensure that your garment does not have a separate patch showing after the wash).
Mix Shampoo, Scoth Brite and fabric conditioner in equal quantities (should form about ¾ of
your bottle) and then add as much of the detergent as the remaining space in the bottle can take.
Make sure to leave at least an inch to shake and mix before use.
Whenever you need to wash a tough stain just pump once or twice (keeping in mind the surface
area of the stain) carefully and delicately rub it into the stain and then rub the cloth together.
Almost 90% of all stains will instantly vanish.
Carefully rinse and iron out the garment.
