October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Month of October was given over to the drive to bring about an awareness for women suffering from Breast Cancer.
A great initiative as the number of Breast Cancer Victims is staggeringly high in the Indo Pak region as compared to the rest of the world.
I have actually seen this happen up close and personal. With my mom having been diagnosed about 16 years back and a subsequent lapse the cause of spreading Breast Cancer Awareness is a cause that is very close to my heart.
However what I want to talk about today is the fragile state of mind that the victims of this disease find themselves in. Of course it’s a terrible disease and the cure is even more traumatic but what we need to never lose sight of is the fact that it directly affects the emotional state of the victim as it is related with the core of our femininity. The loss or injury to a body organ so vital to us and our mental projection of ourselves as women is beyond traumatic. With the cure involving surgery, chemo therapy, loss of hair and radiation therapy the toll it takes on our health is already immense. The trauma of being diagnosed for cancer is mentally debilitating but what we often overlook is the emotional withdrawal of the patient.
Today when October is here and the breast cancer awareness month is upon us id like everyone to take a moment and think of the emotional damage of the victims and to reach out to those around us who might have or are suffering from breast cancer and help them come to terms with a redefined sexuality. Because that is something that they are in need of, the most.
